Think about texture. That smooth, cool stone is begging for something warm and tactile against it. Last summer, I sourced these amazing vintage bentwood chairs from a car boot sale in Camden. Colour is your secret weapon. If your marble is white with grey veins, try chairs in a soft grey, navy, or even a blush pink. If it’s a darker marble, like a Nero Marquina, light-coloured chairs can look incredibly sharp. It’s all about balance.
Oh, and mind the legs! Chairs with metal caps or rough edges on the feet? Nightmare. They’ll scratch the heck out of your floor and might even knock the table’s edge. Felt pads. Stick ’em on every single chair leg. Trust me.
At the end of the day, it’s your space. That table is a statement piece. Let it sing, but build a cosy, lived-in feel around it. It shouldn’t feel untouchable. My current setup? A white marble table from a reclamation yard, paired with four mismatched, comfy upholstered chairs I’ve collected over years. It’s not “perfect,” but it’s full of stories.
